Foreshadowing: 
Hints within the story that illustrate what will happen

Direct Characterization: 
The author tells you what the character is like.

Indirect Characterization:
Author implies what the character is like through dialogue and other ways.

Conflict:
Internal, within the character…existential crisis.
External, outside forces.

Setting:
Time and place


Plot:
Sequence of events.

Tone: 
Author’s attitude.

Mood:
Reader’s attitude.

Theme:
Message-  what the story means.

Denouement-
Climax, where the plot is solved.

Allusion:
Reference to something else, usually literature.

Symbolism:
Object represents an idea or something else.

Imagery:
Creates a mental picture.
